Commercial: Do I need PAT Testing?

PAT

Providing a safe environment for your team and your customers is essential if you are running your own business. It’s important because it’s a legal requirement as part of your Health and Safety policy to make sure all of your electrical appliances within your premises are PAT Tested.

If you can answer yes to any of the questions below, then you need PAT testing:

  • Are you an employer using portable appliances?
  • Do you employ more than 5 employees?
  • Do you carry out health and safety assessments?

How often should I get my electrical items PAT tested?

PAT testing ensures you are compliant with the Electricity at Work Regulations of 1989, which states that employers are responsible for ensuring all electrical equipment in the workplace is maintained to a safe condition and standard.

It’s generally best practice to have your portable electrical appliances PAT tested at least once a year.

It may be less frequent for larger, fixed electrical equipment; however, this varies depending on the daily environment your equipment is in. If your equipment is in a warehouse or a manufacturing environment, they may need to be tested more frequently than usual.

Here at Humphreys we provide a variety of services to suit your electrical needs, including but not limited to electrical inspections, testing and certification. Contact a professional within our team for more advice on testing your electrical equipment.
