Protect your electrical equipment and your safety with an RCD

RCD

Residual Current Devices (RCDs) are used for extra safety as they detect most electrical faults and almost immediately cut of the electricity supply.

Supply cables are permanently protected if the RCD is built into the main supply or socket-outlet, speak to our team today to find out how we can make this possible in your business. An RCD works by constantly monitoring the flow of electricity, if it detects the electricity flowing down an unintended path, for example a person who has touched a live part, it will switch off the circuit rapidly, reducing the risk of serious injury or death.

You may already have an RCD installed and will be able to tell by going to your consumer unit and looking for a button that says ‘test’. If you do this button is part of the RCD.

Remember, although an RCD reduce risk and offers protection, it still means you should be careful and ensure regular inspection of your electrical equipment and wiring. It’s also worth noting that if you find your RCD cuts out frequently, this could be a sign of a greater risk which means you should contact an electrical professional to assess the issue.
